I am new to this kind of programming. What sort of concepts should I read up on before approaching this? Right now, I don't even know where to begin.

Also has anyone done this using C++?

Pretty much any language will do. You can read up on things like sockets and HTTP or just use one of the available libraries for your desired language.

I read on a different thread that using the GET request to send the cookie is not correct. I have looked everywhere and cannot find a different way to send a cookie.
